Some stories deserve more than a word count can contain.

For those stories, we’re opening up The Beacon [The Podcast] starting today!

Longtime followers of Lighthouse podcasts will notice some similarities in the tone of the conversation and the caliber of guests.

But hey, I know some of you are new here.

So rather than tell you what to expect on the show, I thought I’d show you.

Our leadoff guest is Dan Miner, one of Buffalo's most recognizable voices in business journalism and storytelling. Dan is VP of Storytelling at the 43North Foundation and the editor-in-chief of Series B(uffalo), the Foundation's content and storytelling platform.

Audio versions are available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts too, if you want to tune in while you’re working out or walking the dog and don’t want to see the comic-book walls.

Dan and I talked about a lot, but at the core, the conversation is about three things:

  • How stories create real human connection. Not only is each piece on Series B(uffalo) spotlighting people building and shaping our region. The platform itself welcomes an array of storytellers, across different pockets of Western New York’s business and tech community.

  • Buffalo's legacy industries are still at the heart of so much new development here. From insurance, to finance, to packaged-goods manufacturing and beyond. There’s an opportunity to honor our history and take advantage of what makes us Buffalo, while building something new and never been done here before.

  • A platform like Series B can be more than just content. As one of the 43North Foundation’s major pillars, storytelling — done right — can become an engine for decision-making that drives economic development.

Enjoy the chat with Dan, and I’d love to hear your feedback on the show, and on who you’d like to hear from in the future!
